Background

On January 16, 2023, following a recommendation from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Government of Yukon announced that it has lifted the public health emergency relating to COVID-19 under the Public Health and Safety Act. In its announcement, the government noted that it continues to encourage Yukoners to take steps to stay well, including staying up-to-date with vaccinations and staying home if they feel sick.

The Yukon's Ombudsman, Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC), and Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner (PIDC), Jason Pedlar, continues to monitor the evolving situation in the territory and elsewhere, in order to provide services and advice in all his roles.

In particular, as IPC, Pedlar is responsible for monitoring compliance with the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPPA) and the Health Information Privacy and Management Act (HIPMA), which both remain in effect. His responsibilities also include promoting compliance with these laws and informing the public about their rights. Since 2020, our office has issued a number of news releases, guidance documents, advisories and information sheets that relate to COVID-19, to help public bodies and custodians meet their obligations and to keep Yukoners informed.

These documents can be found throughout this website, in sections most relevant to the subject matter. However, they have also been placed here, for ease of location when searching for all COVID19-related materials issued from this office.
