International data protection authorities call for the adoption of a framework for privacy education

International data protection authorities have endorsed several resolutions addressing issues such as improving digital education, international enforcement cooperation and developing comparable metrics in relation to data protection and privacy.

The 38th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners took place this week in Marrakech, Morocco.  The annual conference brings together data protection authorities from around the globe.

The Conference adopted a Resolution for the Adoption of an International Competency Framework on Privacy Education.

Given the necessity and urgency of educating children on data protection and privacy in today’s digital world, this resolution and framework are important tools which can draw attention to this issue and further the inclusion of privacy and data protection in the education of students around the world. This resolution marks significant progress in the efforts to make privacy education for children and young people a priority.

The adopted Resolution on International Enforcement Cooperation (2016)  seeks to continue to encourage efforts to foster effective cooperation in cross-border investigation and enforcement in appropriate cases.

The Conference also adopted a Resolution on developing new metrics of data protection regulation which aims to encourage the development of internationally comparable metrics to inform the policy-making process related to privacy.

All the resolutions endorsed by the conference have been posted on the conference website.
